General information
Yes, neuropediatric consultation reports are normally sent to the child's pediatrician or general practitioner, who should be aware of the child's health and thus be responsible for the proper management and follow-up of the patient.
Before the appointment for a video-EEG you will receive a telephone call from our EEG nurse. She'll explain how the test works, and ask you a few questions to help you to adapt the test to your child's specific needs. You will also receive a document explaining the video-EEG procedure to you and your child.
Yes, for patients insured in Switzerland, the appointments in Neuropédiatrie Genève are covered by the LAMAL. Please note that some health insurance companies require a referral from the child's pediatrician. Please check with your health insurance company.
We are doing our best to reduce the waiting times for your appointment. Please let us know the reason for the urgency of your situation when making an appointment and we will call you back if an earlier slot becomes available.
Yes, you can make an appointment for your child at Neuropédiatrie Genève, but please clearly state the reason for your child's consultation with a pediatric neurologist so that we can validate your request.
One of Neuropédiatrie Genève's objectives is to speed up the diagnosis and treatment process for your child. By sending us all the requested documents and reports before the consultation, you increase the chances of getting a quicker, more precise answer to all your questions on the day of the consultation.
One of the objectives of Neuropédiatrie Genève is to personalize the care of your child and adapt it to your child's specific situation. For this reason, we ask you to fill out questionnaires so that we can prepare in advance for the day of the consultation with you and your child and respond as precisely as possible to your needs. The questionnaires also allow us to prepare for the medical history, so that we can obtain important information on the day of the consultation.
You can ask your pediatrician any questions you may have. If your request is very urgent, you can consult the HUG's Pediatric Emergency sites. Depending on their advice, the neuropediatrician on duty may be consulted.
Talk frankly to your child about what you'd like to discuss with the neuropediatrician, and ask him or her to prepare his or her own questions. Prepare him/her for the day of the consultation, explaining that he/she will have a neurological medical examination lying on the examination bed and a standing examination. For this, he'll need to take off his clothes, keeping his underwear on, as the neurologist will also need to look at his skin. Then he can get dressed and choose between playing while his parents have a long chat with the neuropediatrician, or taking part in the discussion. He may also be asked to take some reading, writing, drawing or attention tests, before or after the consultation.
Yes, children not insured in Switzerland are accepted at Neuropédiatrie Genève. For children of parents who live across the border in France (transfrontaliers), the rates according to Tarmed Suisse are applied. For patients from other countries, a quote is sent before the consultation. The invoice must be signed and paid in full at least one week before the appointment at Neuropédiatrie Genève, otherwise the appointment will be cancelled.
If the request for consultation is related to difficulties at school, or if the request for consultation comes from the school, unfortunately we won't be able to help you without the school's help. To this end, we will send questionnaires to be completed by the teachers and/or school psychologists who know the child best, prior to the consultation.
No medical referral is required to schedule an initial psychological consultation. However, some supplementary insurance providers may require a referral for reimbursement. If you wish to be reimbursed through basic insurance (LAMal), a referral from your pediatrician or general practitioner dated prior to the first consultation is necessary. We recommend checking directly with your insurance provider.
